Arapahoe community college

WEber learning resource center

The original Arapahoe Community College Building is a four-story cast in place concrete structure. The use of exposed structural concrete defines the style of the building; other materials are minimal and dominated by it. Because the design of the building does not provide a single or a dominant entrance, the building has been found to be somewhat uninviting.

The program plan challenged the design team to enhance the existing building design by “softening” the building entrance. The resulting design reverses the opacity of the existing brutalist-style structure by providing a transparent and welcoming façade, and provides a clear and inviting entry. A new vibrant learning commons was provided. Group study room and new technology were added.
