The architectural concept for the building is derived from the history, character, culture, and the natural surrounding environment of the town of Salida.

The design team looked to the local mining and railroad structures for inspiration. Some of the original structures, like railroad water tanks, are built of dark grey or rusted metal siding boxes perched on wood ‘stick-frame’ structures.
