Adams 12 Five Star

Stellar elementary school

The design is a collaborative effort of Bennett Wagner Grody Architects with the Adams 12 Five Star Schools Administration and Facilities Department. Emphasis was put on beauty, aesthetics, human comfort, and creating a sense of place.

Given the aspirations of the school district, high performance schools that are healthy, comfortable environments conducive to learning, that maximize energy conservation were goals from the onset of planning. This prototype 4-track PK-5th grade school with a 600 student capacity is two-story for site and energy conservation. The school is built in a neighborhood with few amenities.

It has become a new anchor for the neighborhood, not just for the young population but for parents and neighbors using the facility after hours for social events.

The media center is located adjacent to the main entrance. Its tower acts as a beacon for the school calling in students and reinforces its place in the discovery and learning process.
